Now available for use...New Data Portal
In this period of growing reliance on electronic communication, our website is undergoing a major renovation for improved access to information, including interactive capabilities for online queries of specimens. Access to our Specify 6.1 database is now available to the public via the SilverCollection web portal. This allows browsing of taxonomy, preparation of checklists and interactive maps, and searches of the collection of >150,000 databased specimens. More are being added daily, so if the taxa you are seeking are not available, feel free to contact us and we will try to prioritize them for data entry as time and resources allow. The collection may be queried by multiple filters, including:
- Year collected
- And much more.
The database is easy to query and comprehend, and is useful for collecting distributional data. It is also an excellent resource for those researchers interested in requesting a loan. We are also in the process of preparing high-quality Auto-Montage photos representing a broad sample of species represented in the LSAM.
In order to optimize your use of the web portal, we suggest watching this SilverBiology Youtube description and tutorial about using SilverCollection.Click here for Youtube SilverCollection video.
The LSU Herbarium began a similar project several years prior to our's, so to understand the full potential of SilverCollection, click here: LSU Herbarium database.
